Free to ask questions, free to answer questions, free to read, free to index, built with plain old HTML, no fake rot13 text on the home page, no scammy google-cloaking tactics, no salespeople, no JavaScript windows dropping down in front of the answer asking for $12.95 to go away. You can register if you want to collect karma and win valuable flair that will appear next to your name, but otherwise, it's just free. And fast. Very, very fast.

We don't run Stack Overflow. You do. Stack Overflow is collaboratively built and maintained by your fellow programmers. Once the system learns to trust you, you'll be able to edit anything, much like Wikipedia. With your help, we can build good answers to every imaginable programming question together. No matter what programming language you use, or what operating system you call home -- better programming is our goal. Stack Overflow is as frictionless and painless to use as we could make it. We believe finding the right answer to your programming questions should be as easy as falling into the pit of success. And maybe even a little fun along the way. 2 تعليقات | قراءة: 89

Two new semantic engines: Cognition and Eeggi أرسل من قبل eng.samar في الإثنين, 2008/09/22 - 8:45pm.
Two companies recently pitched me on their semantic engines. These are not search engines, which is what most people think. Rather, they are databases and algorithms that hold the structure of language (in both cases, the English language). At the most basic level semantic engines tell you what's synonymous with what. At the advanced end of the spectrum they know how grammatically similar phrases like "take a seat," "take a stand," and "take a lollipop," mean completely different things. These engines can be used by search products to greatly improve results. Powerset, now a part of Microsoft, made a big deal of its semantic chops by showing how vaguely worded search queries would return just the results you wanted. Now, it seems, that raw semantic technology is about to become mainstream. ( انترنت )
Web 2.0 Expo: Microsoft, Mozilla, Google Discuss The Future Of The Browser أرسل من قبل BlackSigma في السبت, 2008/09/20 - 2:15am.
hoping to see some real bloodshed at the Web 2.0 Expo panel with representatives from Microsoft, Mozilla, and Google. But sadly, everybody was cordial and informative. Microsoft is working on a set of interoperability tests for browsers, which it will donate to the World Wide Web consortium (W3C), said Chris Wilson, Internet Explorer platform architect. The company also built backward compatibility into Internet Explorer, so that developers who wrote Web apps that took advantage of a broken feature in an earlier version of IE don't have to scramble to change their code when a new version comes out. Microsoft also is working to unify the mobile and desktop versions of Internet Explorer. ( انترنت )
Palin E-Mail Hacker Claims Google Search Helped Find Password أرسل من قبل BlackSigma في الجمعة, 2008/09/19 - 1:51am.
Though the posted account is no longer available, some content of the Alaska governor's messages has been republished on several blog sites. The hacker who broke into Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin's Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO) Mail account appears to have done so by requesting a password reset and answering the challenge questions with the help of Google and Wikipedia.
According to a purported first-person account of the hack posted on 4chan.org, an online forum, "Rubico," the person claiming responsibility, initiated a password change on Palin's account and then supplied the Alaska governor's birthday and her home ZIP code, with the help of "Wikipedia andGoogle (NSDQ: GOOG) to find the info." Microsoft is calling for the adoption of an Information Card system that provides end users with direct control of their digital identities. In a bid to curtail online identity-theft fraud and to broaden adoption of its digital identity system, Microsoft is urging individuals, companies, and governments to work together to implement technology, initiatives, and policy that support the secure management of online identities. In a white paper to be released on Monday, Microsoft calls for the adoption of an Information Card system that uses an interoperable vendor-neutral framework for identity management and provides end users with direct control of their digital identities.
